Assessment and intervention for difficulties in processing and understanding heard language.

Auditory processing disorder is difficulty making sense of sounds even though hearing is normal. Children seem to hear but not understand, especially in noisy places.

Signs to watch for

  • Difficulty understanding speech in noise
  • Frequently asking for repetition
  • Trouble following multi-step instructions
  • Confusing similar-sounding words; reading and spelling difficulties

Our approach

Diagnosis is made by an audiologist after a standard hearing test. Our therapy targets auditory discrimination, auditory memory, listening in noise and phonological awareness, with classroom recommendations.
