Correct pronunciation of sounds and improvement of articulation.

A lisp is a speech sound difficulty in which the tongue moves between or beside the teeth on sounds such as s, z, sh and ch. It is one of the speech problems that responds best to therapy, in both children and adults.

Signs to watch for

  • Tongue showing between the teeth on s and z sounds
  • A slushy or whistling quality on s sounds (lateral lisp)
  • A lisp continuing after age 5
  • Embarrassment about speech at school or work

Our approach

After assessing tongue position, airflow, swallowing pattern and dental structure, we teach the correct placement with mirror and visual cues, then move the sound from syllables to words, sentences and everyday conversation. Many clients see clear progress within weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

A mild lisp is common until about age 4–4.5. A lisp that continues after age 5, or any lateral lisp, usually needs therapy.

Yes. Age is not a barrier, and adults often progress quickly because they are motivated.

Most lisps are not caused by tongue-tie. If tongue-tie is suspected, tongue movement is assessed and a referral is made if necessary.
