Assessment and intervention for eating and feeding difficulties.

Picky eating, difficulty moving from purées to solid food, frequent gagging or long, stressful mealtimes can all be signs of a paediatric feeding difficulty.

Signs to watch for

  • Accepting fewer than 15–20 foods
  • Unable to move to lumpy or solid foods after 10–12 months
  • Frequent gagging, holding food in the mouth or swallowing without chewing
  • Poor weight gain or very long mealtimes

Our approach

Speech and language therapists and occupational therapists work together on oral motor skills, sensory sensitivities and mealtime routines. New foods are introduced gradually through play, without force, and families receive a step-by-step home plan.
