Therapy for speech difficulties due to weakness or poor coordination of speech muscles.

Dysarthria is weakness, slowness or poor coordination of the speech muscles caused by neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson's disease, MS or ALS. Speech may become slurred, quiet or nasal.

Signs to watch for

  • Slurred or unclear speech
  • Very slow or rushed speech
  • Quiet, breathy or nasal voice
  • Weak lip and tongue movements, drooling

Our approach

We work on breath support, loudness, lip, tongue and jaw exercises, rate control and intelligibility strategies, and introduce alternative communication when needed. Intensive loudness-focused programmes can help people with Parkinson's.
