Developing hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Fine motor skills use the small muscles of the hands and fingers for tasks such as holding a pencil, writing, using scissors, doing up buttons and using cutlery.

Signs to watch for

  • Fisted or very tight pencil grip and tiring quickly when writing
  • Messy handwriting and difficulty colouring within lines
  • Trouble with scissors, buttons and zips
  • Avoiding Lego, beads and puzzles

Our approach

Our occupational therapists assess grip, hand strength, finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination, strengthen the trunk and shoulders where needed, and build skills through play-based activities and pre-writing tasks.
