Improving speech fluency and coping strategies for stuttering.

Stuttering is a fluency disorder involving repeated sounds or syllables, prolonged sounds and blocks. It usually begins between ages 2 and 5 and can also continue into adulthood.

Signs to watch for

  • Sound and syllable repetitions
  • Prolonged sounds and silent blocks
  • Tension, blinking or other secondary behaviours
  • Avoiding certain words or speaking situations

Our approach

For young children we use evidence-based, parent-involved approaches such as the Lidcombe Program. For older children and adults we combine fluency shaping, stuttering modification and work on speaking anxiety and avoidance.
